Danger: Beware of Lion

author | Mack Major

"But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, 'Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David's throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.'" [Revelation 5:5]

Jesus is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. But people forget: there is no such thing as a tame lion. There's no such thing as a safe lion. Ever.

Even lion trainers know that a lion is never safe. You have to be careful around one at all times. A lion might decide to kill you. It might just decide to consume you. It is a lion after all.

For Jesus to allow Himself to be compared to a lion means He wants us to understand an aspect of His nature that we should never miss. We live at a time when people want a safe Jesus. They want a tame Christ that is predictable, acceptable to all and who would never harm a fly.

That's the human aspect of Jesus' nature.

But then there's that lion—dare I even say ferocious and brutal aspect of His nature. That side of Jesus is a warning for people not to get so comfortable with God that you think He has changed His mind when it comes to certain things. Things like sin.

God HATES sin. And if you were a king you would hate sin too. Sin means more than just making a mistake.

Sin means a mindset of rebellion rooted in the nature of the demonic that shows utter contempt and disrespect towards God and His Son, without remorse.

It means to scoff at God, to laugh at the sacrifice of His Son, and despise His laws and nature.

When it comes to sin, God hates it so much that when He became human to deal with our sin problem, He had to kill Himself just to deal with our sin! God hates sin so much that He wouldn't even spare Himself from its consequences when He took our sins upon Himself.

So if God won't spare Himself from the consequences for sin, what makes you think He will somehow spare you or I should we refuse the peace offering of Christ's own sacrifice for us?

God is extremely kind, impossibly generous and always ready and willing to forgive. That's His primary nature. But don't get it twisted: the same God that made you will destroy you if you push Him there.

The same God that will receive you into everlasting glory for receiving His Son will slam you into Hell faster than your eye can blink if you continue to reject Him by choosing your own path to salvation that doesn't include repentance from sin and living a clean life.

It's time for us to remember the nature of this awesome God that we serve. Let's show Him both the love and awe-inspiring respect that He deserves. Disrespect Him at your own risk!
